In the fall of 1988, I joined a CD club before I even owned a CD player. Semi-regular trips to the Fred Meyer in Oregon City yielded a bountiful harvest of 45s, all of which I still own. I joined a record club, and soon we had all the latest from Journey, Styx, Stevie Nicks, Saga, Loverboy, and Duran Duran. The very first album Jeff and I bought (I think it was actually with his money) was Asia’s eponymous debut. I should download it.) That same Christmas, Jeff got Men at Work’s first album, Business as Usual (with “Who Can it Be Now?” and “Down Under”). (My favorite song from the album was “ Wanderlust” - oh, how I loved that song. I think my first record album was a Christmas present from my parents: Paul McCartney’s Tug of War, which featured “Ebony and Ivory” and “Take it Away”. That, coupled with yesterday’s entry, has me thinking about the first record albums I ever owned. On our drive home from Yakima, we were each trying to remember the first rock concert we attended.
